Loosid Sober Tip of the Day August 27

The gift of desperation.

This saying is used quite often throughout the spiritual program of recovery. Though the phrase seems to be contradictory in nature, it is not.

The simple truth is that many if not most who suffer from alcoholism or addiction need to get the gift of desperation in order to enter a spiritual program of recovery.

Why is this?

Yesterday, we discussed three reasons why we think we do not have a disease.

Because of this, we keep trying to control our drinking or substance abuse until we finally reach a point that the pain that our disease has caused too much pain. It simply becomes too much.

This is called the GIFT of desperation.

Unfortunately, millions of people each year never get to that point. This is precisely why we call it a gift.

If you are reading this, take solace in the fact that you most likely have received the gift of desperation.

Now it’s your job to throw everything you have into the spiritual program of recovery.

Why? Because you deserve it.

Gifts come in ugly boxes. It’s when we open them up and figure them out the beauty begins to show. Don’t fear looking under the rock. There are bugs and snakes but also diamonds.

I received my gift of desperation when I came to the realization that my life was in immediate danger, and there was only one way out. I went into detox and at first I didn't know what to do so I surrendered at first to my counselors and have been working every day to deepen my surrender so that I never go back.

I got sick and tired of being sick and tired that’s a true statement! I didn’t want to be homeless, alone or hurt anymore! I wanted to be with my family again and just fix my life! I wanted to LIVE AGAIN!

I’ve been in and out of the program for 10+ years and every time I go out and come back it gets worse every time i’m here to tell you they is the same it gets worse every time and you hurt your family friends and takes a little bit of your spirit a little bit more every time I’m done giving my spirit to addiction I’m going to give my spirit to my family I’m going to take all the energy that I have been using to use and put it to good use I am planning on going to school so I can get a better job and take care of my family if I take all the energy I used to use to get high and use that energy instead to help my family we would be sitting prettyAnd now folks be careful because I know that there is fentanyl in almost every drug out there even marijuana I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired I’ll leave it at that but it doesn’t get better every time it just gets worse and worse one minute at a time for me I’ve been doing good just doing that is good enough I’m starting to read other books and inspirational stuff like that thank you for all the good readings on here
