Loosid Sober Tip of the Day December 19

Much like we must learn how to handle resentment on a daily basis, we must also do the same with fear.

In recovery, there are a few strong acronyms we use for fear. One concentrates how we often let something that has not yet happened and may never happen run our lives.

F-E-A-R.

False expectations appearing real.

We have discussed this quite a bit and now if we are to live a life of serenity, we must learn to avoid worrying about the future, in the same way we can never regret the past.

There is another beautiful, very powerful acronym for fear.

F-E-A-R.

Face everything and recover.

This is the key to the kingdom. So many of us do not want to lean in and look into what it is that is causing our fear.

The truth is, leaning in and facing everything is uncomfortable.

It is also true that facing everything and going through that level of discomfort is the only thing that allows us to get to the other side.

In 12-Step programs, this is done in our inventory in steps 4 & 5, and in our amends steps, which are 8 & 9.

Just for today, be open to the possibility of facing everything that is blocking you.

You owe it to yourself the gift of a beautiful life.

Someone I loved with all my heart Denise Hernandez, would often say something similar to me. I feel like if I do let all these issues come to the surface I’ll never regain control over them again. I found a very good resource called the distress tolerance that has helped me tremendously. It’s distress tolerance module 1,2 & 3. In case anyone is interested. Everyone has there own way of dealing with it. I thank god I possibly found 1 way to do it and stay sober.

U like the 2nd acronym better! Great motto to live by! Never heard before and thx!!!

You have a beautiful life! Repeat this everyday.

Fear is self will run riot. When I take my will back fear usually comes with it. Great Acronyms! Remember to go easy on one’s self. Putting ourselves into fight or flight all the time over things we can’t control is only harming our bodies, minds and the people around us. This is why learning how to breath during tough situations and praying to God for guidance, wisdom and courage to make a change, stay calm or have the words to communicate with others what you like or don’t like. It’s a struggle but we practice these daily. We practice to grow not to become perfect. Practice makes consistency….
