Loosid Sober Tip of the Day February 22

If you don’t go within, you go without.

Getting to know ourselves is easier said than done. For those in recovery, we often realize that before starting on our sober path, we had spent our lives seeking outside validation and tended to focus on the externals.

Whether it was the new car, the house, the fancy watch, nothing seemed to fill that empty hole that resided within us.

In fact, if we look within, we see the more we focused on the externals, the further we distanced ourselves from where we needed to go.

Recovery is an inside job. This requires courage to be open to look within and clean up what is inside that will release us from the pain and set us on a path to freedom and happiness.

Choose to start your work inside each morning. Feel the feelings and take note of the disturbances. In order to fix life’s challenges, we need to know the challenges that exist.

It is only then we can get excited to get to work to release ourselves of what’s blocking us and begin our journey to get to the other side.

Guilt is remorse for our behavior, shame is guilt for who we are. Dont be shameful for guilt from the past. When were not using we are not the same people. There is no more reason to feel shame and the guilt will dissipate as we change our behaviour which is inevitable i ft we stay clean and sober and make the proper amends. What I've noticed is actions speak louder than words. The people we hurt want consistency and assurance. That can only be giving with time. Time heals. Stay on the right path and everything else will fall into place!

In a 12'step program, steps 4 through 9 certainly help us deal with the past. And as for the stigma now, I just strive to be a good example to others by always trying to do the next right thing. Who I was and who I am are not the same, not even close. And I will always stay close to my spiritual 12 step program so I never forget this.

Thank you Larry that was put beautifully. We looked at shame and guilt yesterday in my IOP therapy. It was difficult at the time to separate shame and guilt. I understood it a little bit better after the session but you put it perfectly for me to understand. Thank you. Have a nice weekend.

I just joined Loosid and am already appreciating this app. As someone who has been in and out of recovery for the past handful of years, I can relate with the overwhelming feels of guilt and shame which have always been key factors in relation to relapses. I am looking forward to checking in with this community. Thank you, each of you.

Wow. It really helped remind me after reading this that I can't regret the past, nor should I shut the door on it !!! Guilt and Shame are not pleasant companions, they close my mind and shut me out if the Sunlight of the Spirit. Now, I know I just soured the big book quotes but these things that were presented from many years EXPERIENCE working with alcoholics...

Thanks!

My drugs and my alcohol were but symptoms ; all my life I was screaming on the inside and acting out on the outside Ronnie someone to hear me and realize what had happened to me but feeling like I could never tell and I just continued down that dark path seeking and searching for someone to hear me never knowing that all I had to do was turn to God my God Jesus and because of Jesus and AA & CR I no longer have any desire for that drugs and alcohol today and I actually love myself instead of hating myself today and I have that relationship with my children and my brother

Very well said Larry :100: agree :+1:

That's where I am right now. Thanks for sharing this

I’ve been trying to stack a bunch of NEXT RIGHT THINGS together like days. Seems to help :slightly_smiling_face:
