Loosid Sober Tip of the Day February 26

The built-in forgetter.

When we look at our past, when tempted to take a drink or use substances, we think of the relief it will bring. Sadly, too many of us forget the negative things that have happened when we have used in the past.

We have a built-in forgetter.

Our built-in forgetter gives us no protection from the next drink or drug. If we are not working a spiritual program of recovery and have not built a sober network to reach out to, more often than not, we use again.

This is why it is so important to build a sober support system around you.

One great way to eliminate the built-in forgetter is to do the following:

Take a sheet of paper or write on your phone all the bad things that have happened when you have used alcohol or drugs.

If you are fearless and thorough your list may be quite long.

On the bottom of your list, write down the names and numbers of your support network.

Any time you think about picking up that drink or that drug, pull out that list and read it.

Then call your support network. It will most likely save your life.

It really is true. I relaxed after 10 months because I didn’t pick up that phone and build a network of people to talk to. I now make two calls every day to get into the habit and build my army of women to call if I feel unsteady. It’s true that we do have a forgetter. I love this idea of the list and numbers underneath. I’m going to do this.:slightly_smiling_face::purple_heart::pray:t2:

By the Grace of God and AA I have the spiritual program I never would have had without the twelve steps. I came to AA not wanting to Drink ever again..but I knew too, that I had no future without AA. It wasn't just my drinking. I am a horrible awful person to everyone without AA and God. I don't want to loose what AA and God as I now understand God has given me...there's sooo much more we can have with AA. I promise...

I like this method. I have ruined so many relationships while drinking and then sober up the next morning and I can’t take back what I did or said. Is message really has a good point. I vowed never to drink again because I hurt people emotionally and I don’t ever want to do that again to anyone.

Such a good idea — the list was too long and the support network is strong :muscle:

Yes definitely surrounding yourself with positive people is most important. Doing the work like many suggested. I was mandated 4 yrs ago. I thought the program was a cult looking at them was crazy. Today I don’t HAVE to be here I GET to be here. I have a great support network, I have a sponsor, work my steps and live life to its fullest. Live life on life’s terms good with the bad. I’m much happier than I have ever been . I have friends today and I value that every day. I’m extremely grateful to be clean and sober today. Life is good!! Trust the process :purple_heart::kissing_heart::pray:
