Loosid Sober Tip of the Day January 10

What does it mean to ‘work’ a program of recovery?

Many people get scared off by the word ‘work’ when we hear this phrase.

Working a program of recovery is very much like anything else in life.

If we are athletes, we know what it is like to go to physical therapy in order to recover from our injury.

When we want a certain career, we need to work to get a degree or a license that will allow us to enter that field, whatever it may be.

Whether it is a truck driver, a nurse, a doctor, an electrician, a lawyer… we need to work to be able to survive and flourish.

In recovery, the only difference is a big one because ‘the work’ is a matter of life and death.

So why are so many of us unwilling to save our own lives?

Since there are no ‘credentials’, ‘licenses’ or ‘degrees’ that are laid out, millions of us do not qualify ourselves as having a problem until it is too late.

Just for today, take solace in the fact that just by reading this, you are in the right place.

Once you know you are in the right place, give yourself the gift today to start your work.

In 12-step programs, the work is clearly defined and is typically gone through with your sponsor. There are many meetings you can go to at any given time.

If you wish to follow other spiritual programs of recovery, ask questions and begin your journey today.

If you have been in recovery a while and work a spiritual program of recovery, share below the work you do to remain (emotionally) sober one day at a time.

There are many people in the Loosid community who need to hear what you have to say.

With Love, Loosid :pray::heart:

Every morning I pray. That's steps 2, 3, and 11. I go to AA meetings and sometimes look at this app, and it allows me to remember who I am as an alcoholic and it gives me an opportunity to be around other addicts. That's steps 1 and 12. Everyday I stay sober I am making amends to those I've hurt, those I could have potentially hurt, as well as making amends to myself. My 10th step is automatic now, evaluating how I am progressing as well as continuing to learn from my mistakes. If I have worked through my steps, I shouldn't have to do 4 and 5 too often. But if I start to harbor resentments and feel restless and irritable, I may want to do those again to see what's going on. And finally, I set personal goals to give me reasons to stay sober, give me reasons to feel fulfilled as opposed to just existing, and to keep my mind on healthy things. My HP gives me strength to do these things, but no one is going to do the work for me. Simply talking about it won't keep me sober.

I have gone back even after not drinking for over 3 1:2 years to reading the first chapters in big book to keep things fresh and remember how cunning baffling and powerful this disease is, snd wants me dead!! My fav chapter There is a solution really lays it out for me!!! And Bills story used to seem so boring every rehab or half way house I was in but there is so much in that chapter!!! But yes I feel restless irritable and oh boy resentments but I’m learning still
New tools to deal and to me it just really not work it just learning to live life on life terms that when drinking I had no idea nor did I care !!! Saying that it was so much harder and more work to keep up and hide my active use from (if still had job) if not getting money to stay high snd drunk and numb!!! No I do NOT want to go back there!!!

For me a lot of work in the beginning of my recovery. It’s a good thing I love to work. Once we put in the hard work up front then the rest of our lives should be spent just living a spiritual life. We put in the work first to change our old habits, which takes a lot of work, patience and determination, but once we under go that “complete psychic change” our lives become manageable. Our old way of life ceases. New friendships are born. Old ones are mended or lost. New opportunities are at our feet.
If you’re struggling, good, you are right where you’re supposed to be. Now get honest with yourself and put in the work.
