Loosid Sober Tip of the Day January 25

Understanding powerlessness.

When we say we are powerless over alcohol or substances, it’s important to understand what that means as, powerlessness is often perceived as a negative word.

Powerlessness of alcohol is the same as if you had diabetes as you your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin as well as it should. You can also be in incredible shape and have high blood pressure.

Despite the fact we are powerless whether we have diabetes or high blood pressure, there is effective treatment for both. If you are an alcoholic or addict, know that it is 100% treatable as well.

The firs step, however, is to accept that you are powerless, Only then will you be ready to accept treatment to get better.

Very true..!

Well, many people successfully reverse type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure by changing their diet. So they do have the power to make better choices. Same as I have the power to not drink. Being sober makes me feel rather powerful, not powerless. However I do keep in mind that if I drink again, alcohol will take that power away from me, and I don’t want to let that happen! And I agree I have not enough power over alcohol to keep it in moderation, therefore I’m staying sober.

Beginning of Recovery!

I love this perspective

Well said, Nadja!
For me there is no such thing as moderation. I have the power to say no. Period. That’s it. If I give alcohol an inch, it takes miles. I’m thankful for being able to say no for the past 51 days!

I am always in better spirits, when I am here reading , listening and sharing.

Thanks Nadia, I concur wholeheartedly! I’ve had issues with AA and had to find other groups that were more in alignment with my spirit. I too have found that I feel more powerful in my sobriety.
