Loosid Sober Tip of the Day January 30

The gift of desperation.

This saying is used quite often throughout the spiritual program of recovery. Though the phrase seems to be contradictory in nature, it is not.

The simple truth is that many if not most who suffer from alcoholism or addiction need to get the gift of desperation in order to enter a spiritual program of recovery.

Why is this?

Yesterday, we discussed three reasons why we think we do not have a disease.

Because of this, we keep trying to control our drinking or substance abuse until we finally reach a point that the pain that our disease has caused too much pain. It simply becomes too much.

This is called the GIFT of desperation.

Unfortunately, millions of people each year never get to that point. This is precisely why we call it a gift.

If you are reading this, take solace in the fact that you most likely have received the gift of desperation.

Now it’s your job to throw everything you have into the spiritual program of recovery.

Why? Because you deserve it.

I completely agree! I was desperate that I would lose my relationship with my children, and I was very close! It definitely needs to be repaired but with the “gift of desperation” I may still have that chance. I was afraid my relationship of 5 years was over, but with this gift we are now both in recovery and trying to rebuild our relationship. You really discover what is most important to you and will do ANYTHING, including giving up the thing that has given you,so called, comfort, but in fact, has been destroying you!! Live well, be happy and find your peace!!!!

I agree. If it wasn't for this gift I would still be drinking. Thank you Loosid.

I feel this now and have been sober for sometime. The gift of desperation in my need to continue to ask God to remove me from the bondage of self

Knowing and admitting your an alcoholic is different from admitting you are POWERLESS/DESPERATE. This was a great reading!

I lost myself in my addiction. Then I was desperate to gain myself back. My bottom was my greatest achievement. From there I've become myself and better self.

When you finally crawl across that line, it's with some assistance.
