Loosid Sober Tip of the Day January 6

The war is over… if you want it to be.

Millions of us have fought our alcoholism or addiction tooth and nail, refusing to admit defeat. We think THIS time, somehow, and in some way, we will be able to stop.

It works… until it doesn’t.

We try again... We slip… So we try again.

Sometimes we put a week together. Sometimes a month… some of us a year or more until it happens AGAIN.

We swear one final time to God, to our wives, our husbands, our significant others, our mothers, our fathers, our children, our friends, our entire universe that we will never ever ever drink or use again… until we do.

We swear again one more final time… then another final time… then another.

What you need to know is that alcoholism and addiction is undefeated.

The only way to win is to surrender.

This is where so many of us lose the battle because to us, to surrender means to lose and our egos simply will not allow that.

Take solace in the fact that the entire program of recovery teaches us to surrender each and every day to our powerlessness over drugs or substances SO THAT WE WIN.

The war is over… if you want it to be.

It’s amazing the power to be found in surrender.

I was raised to believe that surrendering showed weakness. I was told to never give up my entire life. This thought process and mentality almost killed me. As it turns out, surrendering to my disease was the single strongest thing I had ever done. I had no idea that, admitting I was powerless over alcohol and my life had become unmanageable, would provide the foundation for such an amazing, blessed and sober life! Because I continue to surrender every day, my reward is true peace and serenity!

Looove!

What does surrender mean? What do I do when I surrender??? I have been dry for 6 days…..

Congratulations on your 6 days!:clap::clap: That's HUGE in early recovery. Basically to surrender means giving up the fight inside of us that tells us we might be able to drink again someday without consequences. Many of us fight and fight and fight with that idea and think one day we'll figure out how to "beat the game". We have had to completely surrender or give up that idea to stay sober. Best wishes to you on your recovery journey!

Yes once I surrender my life got better and better a little at a time

There is dignity in surrender. Respect yourself enough to stop fighting.

The war is over today! I’m powerless. God is in control!!

Yes…we win by surrendering…”no more”
