Loosid Sober Tip of the Day July 22

Emptying our cup.

One of the most important parts of recovery is to empty our old thoughts before we start on our journey.

We cannot start clean and see a clear path if we have beliefs on what we are supposed to do, for it is what we were doing that got us into trouble in the first place.

If we want a clean and clear glass of water, we cannot come in with a dirty cup of water. If we empty most of our cup but still leave a little dirty war inside, we will still have dirty water.

Make sure you surround yourself with people who have clean cups of water.

How do you know they have clean water? Connect with people who speak with grace and dignity. Look for those who match calamity with serenity. It is never about how much sober time they have, for all of us only have 24 hours.

Connect with those who have what you want… ON THE INSIDE.

Just for today, choose to empty your cup completely to let fresh clean water to take its place.

How did this tip resonate with you? Let us know your thoughts below. There are many people in the Loosid community who need to hear what you have to say.

With Love, Loosid :pray::heart:

I been living with my daughter for the time being till I can figure something else out. My daughter is completely straight. Right now, I can’t be around people that drink cause then I will want to drink. I have no friends. I been working so much by the time I’m too tired to go to an A.A. meeting I know I should make an effort though.

Hello Rita. Congratulations on reaching 30 days. I am glad as it sounds that you have a healthy and clean sober environment there with your daughter. I hope and pray that your relationship with Christ also continues to grow and even flourish.

It can be hard making new friends in our sobriety as we grow older and avoid the bars, the places, and faces that have fed our disease. When we do not have time for meetings, it can become even worse.

I do not have many friends either, at least now, as I live in a new town. I have been able to make a few friends at church as well as in my SMART Recovery meetings as well as Celebrate Recovery.

Occasionally, I may meet someone while out fishing as I feel grounded most often when out in nature.

My faith, my kids and my family all help me to remain sober although as you already know it is not easy.

You can make sober friends in aa. Aa is not just about meetings. There’s events and outings and the meeting before the meeting and after the meeting.

I sometimes empty dirty water more than once a day but it has gotten easier to handle situations with grace and calm.

You can login to online AA meetings from your phone, tablet, computer. aahomegroup(.org) This post won’t let me post the link, so I put ( ) Don’t put any ( ) when you type it in your browser.

aahomegroup(.org) starts a new meeting every hour, on the hour, 24 hours/day 7 days/week. You can login anytime, you can keep your camera off or on, share if you want or just listen. I’ve established an amazing sober network of sober friends, mentors, and sponsor over the past 11 months and am so grateful for the platform.

By listening to people share in online meetings, I’ve been able to connect with people who are now my closest friends. The desire, cravings, urge to drink has been completely removed by working through the steps w my sponsor and by continuing to practice the principles in my daily life and steps 10, 11, 12, each day, I am in a place the Alcoholics Anonymous book refers to as being “safe and protected in a position of neutrality” regarding alcohol (and substance use/abuse). It’s the only process that has worked for me.

They now have AA meetings on Zoom
