Loosid Sober Tip of the Day July 4

Identify, don’t compare.

When we come into a spiritual program of recovery, many of us will find that we compare our stories with others.

We may feel we have not reached the desperate levels others have or, alternatively, we may look at our stories and think that we have had a much rougher time.

It is not our job to take the inventory of others.

It is very important never to compare stories, but rather identify with the feelings.
Look for the similarities, not the differences.

When we focus on similarities, we will invariably find them.

This is a great point and so true. Ik I've done this before...compare stories and thought mine wasn't that "bad" so the voices in my head start telling me bad things.. use your imagination. Lol

This is true. I have never compared but I have relate. Before AA the concern was that I would hear stories and think “wow, that hasn’t happened to me,” so I would just go back out and drink. But once I realized the similar stories I knew I had to be there.

I struggle with comparing my life now to those lives around me! It’s like why do they get what they have? Why can’t I have that? That’s the stuff that I’m asking my higher power, God, to remove from me. This desire to be like everyone else or to have the stuff everyone has.
I pray that our stories, lives and desire to compare them to others be removed from us today. I pray that we all can relate to one another on a spiritual path. Please help us to look at the similarities In each of our lives. To continue to share our stories with others.

Definitely need to remember this!!
