Loosid Sober Tip of the Day March 1

Self-loathing is one of the biggest challenges so many of us share in common before entering a spiritual program of recovery.

Many of us bang our heads against the wall wondering why we can’t stop.

As we have discussed before, the stigma that we cannot stop because of a lack of willpower is 100% incorrect.

We cannot WILL away alcoholism or addiction any more than we can will away diabetes, cancer or any other disease.

The truth is, we can only stop and stay stopped through working a spiritual program of recovery.

One of the biggest parts is forgiving ourselves… and loving ourselves.

When we recognize it is a disease, it is only then that we realize that it is not our fault.

Thankfully, we have a disease that is 100% treatable, provided that we work a daily spiritual program.

Until we understand this, we will continue to think there is something wrong with us.

Just for today, take solace in the fact that there is nothing wrong with you.

Know that you are not alone and there are millions of people who can show you precisely what they do each day and every day to live a beautiful sober life.

You are not alone.

How did this tip resonate with you? Let us know your thoughts below. There are many people in the Loosid community who need to hear what you have to say.

With Love, Loosid :pray::heart:

So did I was doing well and slipped up yesterday today is a new day and going to a counselor!

Oh, I remember banging my head against the wall many times! The thought of WHY is this happening to me would flood my head in early recovery. Then the shame, guilt and remorse set in. Then after enough of those emotions I’d get angry at everyone else. It’s all their fault. If they only listen to me. If they only do what I tell them. Combating an obsession on self will is like driving with your hands of the steering wheel. You just don’t know where your going to go. The lack of spiritual knowledge I had for the first 38 years of my life shows in how I drank and interacted with others. Because I’m willing to work a spiritual program of action and that I’ve turned my willpower over to the care of God, Higher Power if you will, my life that was once unmanageable is now manageable. My pre-sobriety emotions are not running the show anymore.
It takes prayer, meditation, journaling, AA, Loosid, sober friends, family and most importantly God to change the way I thought. The way I perceived life. The habits I had developed that were killing me and pushing people away.
Today I seek to attract like minded people.
To sum up, spiritual program is a must in combating our disease.
I’ll leave you with this message;
“How can I help?” I play this question in my head over and over daily. Especially if I’m going to interact with someone I know is difficult to deal with. This has helped limit and removed resentments from happening with those people.

I like “…we have a disease that is 100% treatable, provided that we work a daily spiritual program.” This implies that action is needed, and that we need something greater than ourselves to recover. Both true. The disease of addiction is not going to go away by itself. I believe that there is a genetic component involved - that’s why our parents, siblings, or children also may suffer from addiction. It’s not our fault that we have this disease anymore than other genetically-linked diseases. And our medicine is having a program. When we forgive ourselves, things really do change.
