Loosid Sober Tip of the Day March 2

In order to heal, we have to feel.

In our active addiction, most of us have used substances to numb ourselves so as not to feel anything in our lives that wasn’t going according to OUR plan.

When we enter a spiritual program of recovery, we learn that the only way to recover is to lean into the very same things we were running away from for so long.

No one has ever lived a life according to OUR plan. No matter who you are, life will have joy and sadness. Love and loss. Dark and light.

That’s called life.

When we get sober, much of our spiritual work is on complete acceptance of life on life’s terms and feeling ALL feelings good and ‘bad’.

More importantly, we change our perception of what we used to call ‘bad’.

From our ‘problems’ come our greatest lessons. From our ‘pain’ comes our greatest growth.

Just for today, be willing to accept all that comes, good and bad.

Take solace in the fact that there is a spiritual program to embrace it all.

I agree with this! Out from all that pain and suffering I shine. I’m sober, I’m helping other alcoholics and I have a power greater then myself, God, to help guide me through this day. I’ve come realize that if I lean into my pain, emotions and uncomfortable situations I don’t need alcohol or drugs or anything else that would numb out those feelings anymore. I’m fact those old behaviors were killing me slowly! I cry when I’m sad, I laugh when it’s funny, I help when it’s needed, I get mad when someone hurts me but what I don’t do is reach for a drink or drugs or what else I did to comfort those feelings. I reach for the program of AA. I reach for those I’ve met in the program who work the program daily and want to talk about it.
That’s truly how I stay sober.
Recovery, unity, service

There is no feeling or problem that is greater than my sobriety. Gratitude has helped me through a whole lot.

So true! Where there is light there is shadow. Can’t have the good without the bad. We need contrast to experience life.
