Loosid Sober Tip of the Day March 21

Understanding powerlessness.

When we say we are powerless over alcohol or substances, it’s important to understand what this means as powerlessness is often perceived as negative or ‘weak’.

Many of us think it means we are not strong enough. We don’t have enough will power. Others amongst us think if we are tough enough, we can beat it. We just need to try harder.

So we try again. We will do better next time… and then the next.

We are baffled as no matter how hard we try it simply doesn’t work. Or, for others, it works… until it doesn’t.

What you need to know is powerlessness IS the very power that allows us to get better.

It is accepting the fact that we have a disease. Once we understand that we have a disease, we realize IT IS NOT OUR FAULT.

Powerlessness over alcohol is the same as if you had diabetes and were powerless over your body’s ability to produce insulin. Your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin as well as it should.

You can also be in incredible shape and have high blood pressure.

Despite the fact we are powerless whether we have diabetes or high blood pressure, there is effective treatment for both.

Here’s the great news…

If you are an alcoholic or addict, know that it is 100% treatable as well.

The first step, however, is to accept that you are powerless, only then will you be ready to accept treatment to get better.

Accepting my addiction as a disease was the best thing i ever did. It helped me to separate it from the me that I knew. For years, I thought. I am my addiction and my addiction is me.
No
My addiction, is something that affects me because I let it hold power over me.
Once I realized that, I was able to love myself again.. thats where the healing really began

G m to all, i was meant to read this\nBecause I was going to share anyway about taking care of yourself. Personally, i am completely powerless.\n Over all my addictions. I am on a strict regimen now at 65; If I could have foretold the damage to my body.\n But that shoulda woulda coulda!! I am insulin dependent diabetes now, and the ramifications of drinking alcohol ,( a very :-1: bad excuse, to fit in being one of boys in the navy)
Things only get better boys and girls !! Now I see a liver specialist atrium of liver here in greenville , south carolina , because I have the middle? stages of cirrhosis of the liver. My dad always told us kids, that you are what you eat. :unamused: The sad reality is what we put into our bodies greatly affects us as we hopefully age!! Quit my vodka over 3 years ago. My warped addict mind, i switched to crack. Justifying i had to get high somehow l o l. please, i'm trying to reach out to the younger folks. All right? Don't go down the same path and take One Day at a Time, be diligent and love , a sober and clean life.\nBecause my days are numbered. Straight up you feel me??? God bless you   love always, Lauren Marston  :sparkling_heart:

It still sounds funny, surrender to win, but that's how it works. There's a lot of wisdom in the Big Book. Having a sponsor to help explain it is good too

:white_heart::white_heart::white_heart::white_heart::white_heart::white_heart::white_heart::white_heart::white_heart::purple_heart::notes::musical_note: I am slow sometimes because I'm going so fast.

MY SINCEREST HEALING-SPIRITUAL- -PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL VIBES OF GREAT STRENGTH TO & FOR YOU, Susan Stein

wow! I am on sober tips. I found it. all you have to do is swipe left at least on my phone. This is great

ADDICTION is a disease and now I really believe it and maybe one day I won't hate myself for being a lifetime drunk

SAVE ALMOST 9 YEARS I'M GOING TO COUNT OUT THE EXACT TIME AFTER I GET DONE HERE

...and maybe being taught to make drinks when you were five. might have a little to do with it

(...why blame our elders without forgiveness? because we really sometimes don't know what they went through...)

IT IS TRUE

it is physical disease. it is psychiatric disease and psychiatric and physical disease are the same to a very large degree

And thank you for letting me know that it's not my fault and GRAND PROPS 4 all of the wisdom to glean from this site. thank you:call_me_hand:t3::+1:t4::pray:t6:
