Loosid Sober Tip of the Day March 21

A life run on self-will is doomed to fail.

Much of recovery has to do with taking us away from self-will and turning it over to a power greater than ourselves.

It is very important to note that it is not tied to any religion or devotion. It is 100% spiritual, and the higher power is whatever you want it to be, so long as it is not us.

To some, we turn our will over to this higher power who we may choose to call God. For others, who may be atheist or agnostic, we often turn our power over to our sober peers. In this case our God is Group-Of-Drunks.

Another thing we may want to do is add an “o” to God. When we are agitated, pause and think, what is the G-oo-d thing to do?

We can also look at it as Gift Of Dignity or Good Orderly Direction.

The most important thing to know that the answers will not come from us at it is our thinking that got us into trouble in the first place.

Just for today, choose to free yourself from the bondage of self and ask whatever or whoever your higher power is to direct your thoughts as to the next right thing to do.

How did this tip resonate with you? Let us know your thoughts below. There are many people in the Loosid community who need to hear what you have to say.

With Love, Loosid :pray::heart:

I call it the universe haha but my sober journey has definitely given me the opportunity to become more spiritual. And that has been a rock for me throughout the past (almost) year

Thanks to you

So as an atheist my god is a group of drunks?? That doesn’t sound right…:face_with_monocle:

When I first got sober and in treatment, there was this man who read the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous to the men in recovery. I didn’t know About God. The higher power part for me was a struggle. This man suggested that I call it GUS. Great Universal Spirit. My eyes and heart lit up with joy as I could, then, have something greater than myself to believe in. This little acronym helped shape my sobriety program for the first year or more. It’s was the start of what I can see today as growth spiritually. The program has given me spiritual growth. For over the last year or so my growth has shifted. I no longer have to use GUS as my higher power. I have found God. What made this change is beyond me. But it reassures that this spiritual program is real. When I completely give myself to it and work it, the growth is measurable. I see what I call God shots in my life daily. The amount of intuition I can receive has been a blessing in of its self. Now it’s only useful if I act on those intuitions. That’s the part where meditation comes in. Learning to trust those intuition is difficult at times. But with practice one can make habit. I feel very blessed today. The gift of life. The gift of joy. The gift of a new found way to live life.
May you find your higher power now. Start with GUS.

I love this. A friend of mine uses “Gathering Of all that is Divine.” It’s a mouthful, but I like the idea of relying on something that is divinely inspired. Unconditionally loving. A resource of strength, support, guidance and love.

Thanks so much for sharing this Kevin :pray::pray::pray:
