Loosid Sober Tip of the Day March 21

Identify, don’t compare.

When we come into a spiritual program of recovery, many of us will find that we compare our stories with others.

We may feel we have not reached the desperate levels others have or, alternatively, we may look at our stories and think that we have had a much rougher time.

It is not our job to take the inventory of others.

It is very important never to compare stories, but rather identify with the feelings.

Look for the similarities, not the differences.

When we focus on similarities, we will invariably find them.

I feel like this is so true. When comparing ourselves to other, we are only comparing ourselves to a very small part of this person. Only on what we see. And what we see is usually a small moment of forced smiles or a glacé at nice cloths and nice things . But we don’t see the space between the pictures or what’s underneath that designer outfit or what’s behind that quick smile. So let’s not compare. It only makes us feel
Worse about ourselves or could give us false hope or more than most bring us down.

I agree that comparing our story with another person’s story is a very bad idea. James Huff you are very right that we don’t see the entirety of what someone is or has gone through so comparing ourselves with anyone is futile.

When we compare, we always lose.
