Loosid Sober Tip of the Day May 1

The built-in forgetter.

When we look at our past, when tempted to take a drink or use substances, we think of the relief it will bring. Sadly, too many of us forget the negative things that have happened when we have used in the past.

We have a built-in forgetter.

Our built-in forgetter gives us no protection from the next drink or drug. If we are not working a spiritual program of recovery and have not built a sober network to reach out to, more often than not, we use again.

This is why it is so important to build a sober support system around you.

One great way to eliminate the built-in forgetter is to do the following:

Take a sheet of paper or write on your phone all the bad things that have happened when you have used alcohol or drugs.

If you are fearless and thorough your list may be quite long.

On the bottom of your list, write down the names and numbers of your support network.

Any time you think about picking up that drink or that drug, pull out that list and read it.

Then call your support network. It will most likely save your life.

I've recently become aware that the temporary relief I've sought from alcohol in the past is really an illusion, a feeling that has nothing to do with the chemical. I'll be guarding against the built in forgetter on that note as well!

That is so true. The only things you want to remember about using is the things that were fun. The forgetter always forgets the reasons that we decided to stop using.

I had a little setback over the weekend. This morning I am back on the wagon and getting involved with the NA fellowship to help myself stay out of my head and build relationships with people who are going through the same trials & tribulations.

This tip today perfectly describes me; I remember the comfortable drink feeling, not the aftermath that makes me hate myself.

Hi

The only person I hurt is me!!@ drinking alone and too much makes me dizzy, nauseous and wanting to puke up all the vile poison I've ingested. God how I hate myself right now so much!!! Ugh I am pathetic, a low worthless being with no right to exist!!!!
