Loosid Sober Tip of the Day May 12

We are as sick as our secrets.

This is a common expression used in recovery. It is important to feel our feelings and share with people what’s going on with the challenges in our lives.

What we hold inside builds up like a slow boil which at some point will manifest itself in some way, shape or form.

If you are struggling, share your struggles today.

If it’s something that is personal, be sure to share it with a trusted, close-mouthed friend. In 12-Step programs this is normally reserved for a sponsor.

In other settings, it may be more suitable for a professional.

What you need to know is that asking for help is something you should never be ashamed of but rather one to be proud of as you are taking steps to work through your challenges.

It is an act of power and courage.

Free yourself today by letting out what is inside of you and ask for help.

You are worth it.

And THAT is what 12-step programs are all about. Self-healing. It’s natural for addicts to not want to participate in 12-step programs - having a sponsor, doing book work, GOD (which can be “Good Orderly Direction”). But that’s the disease driving our bus. Telling us lies so that we don’t heal, so that we don’t recover. The internal change that i experienced after working the Steps was peace, understanding, and self-forgiveness. Facing my secrets, and accepting that I was sick - and never have to be again.

We do recover!

I'm glad 12 step programs helped you, unfortunately they are not for everyone. Peace, understanding and self-forgiveness are necessary for any recovery.

It is true. I recently have been through a difficult situation but didn't know how or who to share it with. But I knew I couldn't let it remain to build up inside of me. I finally let it out to a few select people and they were more than understanding and even gave me a lot of advice. What I learned is that some people are not only there to help you, but they want to help you.

I love that. It’s so true I always build resentments and it is Dangerous so thanks for the reminder
