Loosid Sober Tip of the Day May 15

The gift of desperation.

This saying is used quite often throughout the spiritual program of recovery. Though the phrase seems to be contradictory in nature, it is not.

The simple truth is that many if not most who suffer from alcoholism or addiction need to get the gift of desperation in order to enter a spiritual program of recovery.

Why is this?

Yesterday, we discussed three reasons why we think we do not have a disease.

Because of this, we keep trying to control our drinking or substance abuse until we finally reach a point that the pain that our disease has caused too much pain. It simply becomes too much.

This is called the GIFT of desperation.

Unfortunately, millions of people each year never get to that point. This is precisely why we call it a gift.

If you are reading this, take solace in the fact that you most likely have received the gift of desperation.

Now it’s your job to throw everything you have into the spiritual program of recovery.

Why? Because you deserve it.

Wow it IS A GIFT! To me it’s better then hitting rock bottom.

For me, I had to hit my rock bottom to find my gift of desperation. The desperation to stay sober and live a spiritually fit life is also what keeps me from from hitting an even deeper and worse experience (the infamous yet).

I too received a gift card from the spiritual store. I’m forever grateful for this gift.
As direct result I’m able to enjoy life again without alcohol or drugs or random sexual or over indulging in sweets.
I’ve made amends to those I’ve harmed (I have a few more to go). I’ve changed the way I view life, my life and have turned it over to the care of God as I understand him.
I tried to get sober on my own before and I may have had a few years under my belt then it wasn’t spiritual, the gift of desperation was there.
For those who haven’t felt the gift of desperation keep digging it’s down there. If you’re tired of digging then start looking in the pile of dirt, the gift card is in there…
May all of you find peace your sobriety journey.

I LOVE that... Thank you for sharing! I find your advise or suggestions to be super helpful; sometimes it's hard to feel hopeful when you're going through Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms (like..I got clean, just to feel like This??!)...but, I believe if I just hang on, I will find that gift card you're talking about, in the pile of dirt..thank you!
