Loosid Sober Tip of the Day May 19

Day 1

Every year, millions of people come into recovery on Day 1.

This may mean we are entering recovery for the first time.

For others, it may be because we are coming off of a relapse.

There is a false stigma that coming in with 1 day is something to be ashamed of. Sadly, millions of people die because of this complete untruth.

The baffling question is, if 100% of us started with 1 day, why are we ashamed? The truth is, not only is sobriety not to be ashamed of, but shows tremendous courage.

Sobriety does not mean all of us get sober the first time and stay sober as, unfortunately, many of us take our will back and relapse over and over again until we finally surrender to the winning team.

We say unfortunately, not because relapse happens, but because many of us never make it back.

If you are on day 1, take solace in the fact that we have all been there. There is not one of us who hasn’t.

Relapse doesn’t have to be a part of our recovery journey, but if it is, our message to you is WELCOME, WE LOVE YOU, and are so glad you are here. STAY.

If you are coming into recovery for the first time, our message is, WELCOME, WE LOVE YOU, and are so glad you are here. STAY.

Whatever amount of time you have, you know what day 1 feels like. If you have some sober time, share with others below what it was like for you and any suggestions you have to help.

If you are new, share what you are feeling. In fact, share like your life depends upon it… because it does.

There are many people in the Loosid community who need to hear what you have to say.

With Love, Loosid :pray::heart:

I wish I could hold on to the feeling I has this morning when I woke up. I felt good. I felt calm. I felt like I am going to enjoy today and my sobriety.
Then I encounter people. Not just people, but little people (my grand children who I help raise) and they popped all my hopeful bubbles. My daughter is getting married Saturday and she’s stressed out and of course I get the brunt of that.
So I breathe. Repeat Serenity prayer. I need the wisdom to know what I can and cannot change or fix or help.
I just need to get through today. This hour, then the next.
I will be brave and give myself Grace.

You've got this!! Just speaking it aloud takes some power out of it. Think of all the things in your life that bring you joy and keep your focus there. Get back on that happy morning bubble :heartpulse:

Day 1 for me was filled with shame, embarrassment & guilt. All I wanted to do was run. I was even contemplating moving but we know our problems just cone with us wherever we go.

I decided in :point_up_2: that moment I couldn't do things the same. I couldn't just "stop" drinking for a period of time, convince myself I was good and get back on the horse again.

Massive action was the only way.

Day 1 was when I got a sponsor and I'm following her lead every step of the way.

Feel squirly - call/text :heavy_check_mark:
Getting anxious - go to a meeting :heavy_check_mark:
Get to at least 5 meetings/week :heavy_check_mark:
Talk to others in recovery :heavy_check_mark:

Today is all I have control over and today I choose to be sober :heartpulse:

I agree with the fact that I am not alone in this recovery journey and some of us don’t make it back. I’m reminded in recovery a relapse can happen anytime even after 20, 30 years and that’s why I have to put my sobriety first and work a spiritual program.

Amen! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

That’s so great!

I really want to start my days like that again. I used to be a super health “nut”. Meditation and exercise seriously got me through some tough days. So easy to let go but so hard to start.

I was able to regain a happy bubble! Mostly because I’ve been checking in here all day!
