Loosid Sober Tip of the Day October 17

Identify, don’t compare.

When we come into a spiritual program of recovery, many of us will find that we compare our stories with others.

We may feel we have not reached the desperate levels others have or, alternatively, we may look at our stories and think that we have had a much rougher time.

It is not our job to take the inventory of others.

It is very important never to compare stories, but rather identify with the feelings.

Look for the similarities, not the differences.

When we focus on similarities, we will invariably find them.

I totally agree! I used to compare my life to others while growing up and even into sobriety. Today I can find similarities between my life and others. My story and other’s stories. I’ve come to realize that our stories maybe different but the outcomes are the same, an unmanageable life, lack compassion, hatred towards ourselves, and no spirituality. When a speaker is sharing their story at a meeting I found comfort when I find similarities. And if I don’t find similarities that’s ok too! What I do know is we are all here looking for the common goal, to heal our mind, body and soul.
