Loosid Sober Tip of the Day October 9

The power of the pause.

Many times, when emotions run high, we are very tempted to act out. We may refrain from the drink or drug but may act out in many other ways.

When you are in these situations, know the power of inaction and the ability to pause.

You may want to send the angry text or email or tell off someone in person or over the phone. Whenever you find yourself in these situations, PAUSE.

Does it need to be said? Does it need to be said now? In 12-Step programs we ask our higher power to direct our thinking as to the next right thought or action.

This ability to restraint of pen and tongue is one of the most powerful tools you have. Use that tool whenever you need. It’s always there.

When you find yourself agitated today, or are not sure what action to take, PAUSE. Ask for guidance and direction. If you don’t have a higher power, call a friend who is in recovery and can identify.

When I feel uneasy, I must realize it is because I am usually H. A. L. T.
This is the best time to ask someone else how their day is going and then do it again and then forgive someone for something!

You don’t know how many times I should have done this! I cork off at a moment’s notice.

It made me realize I don't pause enough and definitely need to pause more

I pause too much and take it out on myself. Whoa is me!

Pausing and taking a breath usually helps!

I agree with this tip! I used this tool the other day. Another person had drop off a dump trailer on a sloped driveway with out blocking the tires. Another guy came out to load it up. I had parked my truck in front of the trailer. The trailer slide forward and damaged my bumper. My initial thought was F! Then I calmly walked out to see the damage. I could feel the anger setting in. I kept walking away. Then I walked back got in my truck and moved it up a few feet. Got out and said at least no one got hurt! That’s the program working in me! Old me would have thrown something either at my truck or at the trailer or at the house. Which would have caused more damage. It pays to pause! Relax. Take a deep
Breath and ask yourself if you’re ok, alive, is everyone around you ok, alive? Most likely the situation is fixable with a few bucks. It felt good not to over react. To choose my action and inaction wisely. I thank the Program of AA and my G0d for the courage to be calm.

Good reminder. Not working at the best job but if I want to get out I’ve gotta keep my emotions in check. Just get tired of being around coworkers who don’t really care about quality of their work. Sometimes not sure if it’s just my overall impulsive nature that’s developed from using alcohol and weed to deal with stress instead of meditation or prayer. Sorry I may be rambling I don’t have a great filter sometimes

If I would have read this at 9am instead of 9pm, my day would have been so much better :pray:t2::heart:
