Loosid Sober Tip of the Day September 8

Compare and despair.

Yesterday, we talked about how important it is to identify with the feelings and never to compare stories.

Comparing ourselves to others is a trap that too many people in recovery find themselves.

When we compare ourselves to others, we lose sight of the entire reason why we are in recovery… to connect with likeminded others who share our common bond.

Comparison is the death of happiness. We must look toward others with hope and, for those who may be sicker than others, we must choose empathy.

When we compare, we either feel worse about ourselves or we feel better than others. Self-pity or ego. Either path is the wrong path.

Make a commitment today to not compare yourself to others. You are exactly where you need to be.

Myself!

Day one for me and I already started comparing myself to people who are a week, a month, a year ahead of me. So glad I read this, made me feel better :+1::+1::+1:

I don’t compare myself to others as to how long they’ve been sober or clean.. I’ve got 26 years sober but only 3 years clean..10/31/19.. I know we all have our own story and mine isn’t anything pretty.. but that’s all in the past.. I know God is in control and I never want to go back where I was.. I hear other’s stories and all I want to do is help them if possible.. both women and men.. if there’s anything I can say or do to let them know they aren’t alone.. I’m happy..
