Loosid Sober Tip of the Day September 9

If you don’t go within, you go without.

Getting to know ourselves is easier said than done. For those in recovery, we often realize that before starting on our sober path, we had spent our lives seeking outside validation and tended to focus on the externals.

Whether it was the new car, the house, the fancy watch, nothing seemed to fill that empty hole that resided within us.

In fact, if we look within, we see the more we focused on the externals, the further we distanced ourselves from where we needed to go.

Recovery is an inside job. This requires courage to be open to look within and clean up what is inside that will release us from the pain and set us on a path to freedom and happiness.

Choose to start your work inside each morning. Feel the feelings and take note of the disturbances. In order to fix life’s challenges, we need to know the challenges that exist.

It is only then we can get excited to get to work to release ourselves of what’s blocking us and begin our journey to get to the other side.

It has been 3 weeks that I have not drank. Though I can go a month without drinking! It is just when I have a drink I cannot and will not stop! Sometimes I would pass out, maybe black out; or fight with my love ones. I do not even want a drink because I do not want to feel horrible, being hungover, mad at myself. To see the look of disappointment in my family’s face. I’m working hard on finding the empty hole in me. I’m trying to look within and accept I have a problem drinking. I’m a very social person. I work hard. I felt that I deserve to have a drink and socialize with friends. But I can’t!!! So I’m working on finding and feeling ok to socialize with people without drinking! One day at a time!

Hi Tina, Im having the exact same experience and keep wonder how to stop. The crazy part is I dont go out and purchase the alcohol its when its offered and present that I have the issue. Have to learn to say no or not be around drinkers.

This is a great reminder. I am still working on focusing on within to fix what’s on the outside. Sometimes it feels easier to reorganize a room or pick up some new clothes than to tackle an emotional obstacle.

This Saturday is 4 months of good sobriety, I have been turning it over to God on a regular basis. I go to at least 1 meeting a day. I see My sponsor about 3 times a week and I am on step 4. Meditation and prayer help a lot. I talk to My Son 5+ times a week and My being grateful for what I have has changed My life. I have learned to let go of worries about external things that I have no control of. My decision making process has continued to improve each day, decisions are almost always made based on How positively it will effect My sobriety.
