Loved me when I was a drunk (she was sober) but when I got sober, she was gone and had to let me know just how much better her life is. Kept me for a confidence booster until she found a replacement. I endured cruelty, rejection, emotional abuse, etc and stayed faithful. Sober over 18 months but now afraid to trust/start over. Been in the dumps for the past few weeks and can't get motivated
Hey Ben,
All credit to your 18 months goes to God and you- nothing changes that.
You may choose to view this woman with gratitude however for being a part of your change and to realize that while you are getting well/made whole, she unfortunately also suffers from a disease. One of codependency and perhaps low self-worth. She may have felt the need to move away for fear that once you could view the relationship with sober eyes, you might see her in a truer light.
By this rational, she has actually brought you one step closer to a partner who will love the “new and sober” you. The real you.
For today, we do our best to love OURSELVES. Realizing that our disease is not a moral failing but rather a thief of our truest character.
You are becoming the man you were created to be. The next chapter of your life is a blank page and only you hold the pen… never have you been closer to the life you’ve dreamed of than you are right now.
Stay the course and know you are worthy of good things.
Very well said
