It is crazy how ugly I look to myself when I am down in the dumps.

Samsara, stop looking in the mirror, you're an attractive woman & I'm pretty sure you realize that. Just a little about myself, first of all I'm not looking for romance, I'm doing my best to win my ex back. I was born in Paterson, I've lived in Bricktown & another place I can't think of the name but my Mom was from Ga & I've lived here since 1967. Anyway I'm just looking for a friend to chat with about Sobriety

That’s that little deceptive voice not to listen to. I hate when it creeps in too. Whatever anyone else thinks, we can’t get away from facing ourselves.
But you’re not ugly. You’re beautiful. And what you’re doing for yourself is beautiful.

Not a problem.. I feel that way. I am always blessed to be sober. So why feel ugly. Just feel gifted, right! 
That’s actually super common in recovery, especially early in sobriety. It’s called emotional distortion. When you’ve relied on substances to cope for a long time, your brain has a hard time regulating emotions without them. So when you’re feeling low, your inner critic gets LOUD and it doesn’t just attack your mood, it attacks you. How you look, how you feel, what you’re worth.
It’s not about being vain or weird, it’s about feeling raw, exposed, and unsure of who you are without the old escape. That’s why even small things, like how we see ourselves in the mirror, can feel overwhelming.
Naming it helps like you just did. Saying it out loud interrupts the shame spiral. And learning how to sit with feelings instead of escape them, positive self talk, even when you feel down you’re encouraging yourself. Or do what you did, write a post. Invite others in to help encourage you. That’s recovery.

You are created in God's image. Nothing he created is ugly including you 
find something that gets you out of self. I struggle also with the man inside my brain
