Many, many times. Then I would hear stories of me drinking and driving down the wrong side of the highway, drinking and driving down train tracks, etc. So many things could have went very very bad.
Yep! I’m not sure why we were chosen to live while others paid the ultimate price for making the same mistakes. Regardless, I’m grateful to be alive, and feel my purpose is to stay sober and help others. That’s the least I can do
Agreed! I look back on life sometimes and think.. it’s been a rough one for sure. But I’m thankful and grateful to be here
I’ve woken up dozens of times and had no idea how I got home, or wherever it is I was, and found my car parked outside. It’s pretty awful to reflect on but I’m just grateful those days are behind me and I never injured others or myself.
Amen. True story. Grateful to be alive and given a chance to make the right choice moving forward
It took me awhile to get to this point. But I’m glad I’m finally here.
SO don't miss waking up and wondering what happened the last couple hours of the night before. SO don't miss the kinife-like headaches and the foggy feeling the lasted half a day. SO don't miss planning my apologies!
I think of the drunk driving I and other innocent people survived by some miracle....I think of rural Texas where I was raised and the multiple hospitalizations and being thrown in the drunk tanks and the state hospital. And I still think of how all of that wouldn't get me to quit...it's hard to say, but when you know...you know. I had to radically change my life and move states to get sober. And even then...I had no intention of doing so. But when I was done drinking...it was like a miracle. I just knew. I was so beat down I couldn't go through the blackouts anymore. The edge of death got too real.
So very true!
Yup.. been there done that many times...I'm surprised I'm still here..
I'm glad you're still here.
Past the fog of our previous mistakes or setbacks is always a sign of clear rebound, a sense of realization that is what I reach out to as if reaching out for a life reserve. After my binging without those " moments of clarity" I am doomed to my deep regret for how I've possibly embarrassed myself or ended back in my bed without realizing how. That is complete torment. I've thought I was alone in the regard.
I shouldn’t be here either. I have no idea why I am. DUI’s, blackouts, breaking my jaw. And not remembering how! Today going through this the withdrawals. Truly is insane. Torture. This has got to be it. I cannot continue to live like this. Trying to do this alone has not worked very well for me. So on here and reaching out. Found a couple of buddies with similar stories. Looking for more. Grateful for another day even though I am deathly Ill.
I am always here to talk to. I’ve been through it all, from recovery from hard drugs, to becoming a bad alcoholic the last 15 years. I have done and said a TON of things I shouldn’t have, that made me look terrible, etc. Been kicked out of bars. Wrecked multiple vehicles. 2 duis. Lost many jobs. Lost respect from my oldest son. I understand completely.
