Mental Health Resources

For my sobriety, AA has been the most helpful resource. However, I do have other issues that continue to surface which is best addressed by professionals. As a result I am constantly in and out of therapy. Part of the challenge has been finding the right therapist. Recently I got 12 sessions from a Veteran Service Organization but the problem is that it’s online. I don’t mind it, but I prefer in person. To me being intentional and going somewhere for therapy keeps me accountable.

I think I might just have to find a provider through insurance or pay out of pocket.

I was wondering if anyone else has a similar experience in trying to find the right resource for you?

Good Morning Tim. Try to find a therapist that specializes in duel diagnosis

Thank you!!

If you are employed by a company large enough where you have an EAP accessible to you, call them and have them hook you up with a good dual diagnosis therapist. That’s what I did, and I have been seeing mine since last October, he’s really great. And it’s hard for me to find a good therapist too. Good luck!

I appreciate it. I tried our EAP they are awful. Cant get a referral for anyone.

Tim, have you tried VAMC? Also, I looked and found a dozen services offering therapy at reduced rates. I'm experimenting with Inner space, which is a VR app that vets get free. It has a LOT of stuff, including therapists.

I had no use for psychology for the longest time, til I found a shrink I clicked with. Really that's most of it: the chemistry. You've gotta just shop around. But give each one a fair chance.

Sometimes it takes a couple sessions to notice the connection. And watch your openness and willingness, lacking those will ruin every try.

Thants awesome, thanks for the recommendation!

I posted the link as a Mental Health post.
