It doesnt happen everyday or night but outside forces set me off i have mental issues if i can even get to sleep then ill binge drink so i can sleep! Im in NJ at a treatment place that specializes in mental and substance abuse. Ive lived in oregon my whole life except when i was in the marine corps. Russ it sounds like you're in the right place, I don't know whod agree but with what you're dealing with it sounds like you just need to stop and start addressing things one at a time. Alcohol is great at numbing the pain and for a little while alleviating anxiety, until it's not and ofcourse all those issues are waiting for you as soon as you sober up. There's no problem so big a drink can't make worse

I hope it works out for you. I understand, I use alcohol to numb pain, physical and mental. Binge, then get angry at myself for being weak, then okay then binge.

Amen something sets me off if I can sleep I will wake up screaming and crying about dieing on the ground. Then I drink to get back to sleep

Hey Russ, first I want to thank you for fighting for our country, truly not something to take lightly. I am Darrow and you are not alone bro,I am 32mos clean and I've come grips with the fact that I can never successfully get high about nothing it don't work, no weapon formed against me shall prosper when I pray. God or whatever higher power u choose shall prosper. Give it a chance because you have tried everything else. Give God a chance, it won't cost you a dime, Our government should take look at how our veterans are treated, Loosid cares and the Government don't. You fought for this country and they help you get with return to your great and loving self, Peace and love my friend

Thank you for sharing that, Russ. You’ve been through a lot, and it’s good that you’re seeking help and showing up for yourself.

Being in a treatment center that gets both the mental and the substance sides is a strong move. You deserve peace, not just sleep. Proud of you for not giving up.

Thank you so much

Yay keep up the good work. And what Darrow said 100% and trust me it's not my first time in treatment but because it doesn't work because I didn't. I'm in 12 week IOP for alcohol treatment. I just spent 46 days in jail on a $100 K bond for DUI. So I relied on God my higher power so much more in there. But often in an instant u have some want to be queen of the pod trying to push your buttons. So I needed to not get into any trouble while I waited for my court date. I found a book in there celebrate recovery. It was awesome. Just in case u want to check it out

i have bpd, adhd, & ptsd. one of my issues is being impulsive. not thinking before i act or speak. i can relate to u because my mental illnesses complicate my recovery.

ps: my mental health COMPLICATES my recovery but does NOT make it impossible. u can do it. u are strong for surviving, & u can get stronger every day by not drinking/using.

Look into emdr for trauma and what causes you to drink and research Jesse Mogle.com

Good luck

I’m sure been dealing with this for years

Thank you

Ok thank you
