Met with my doctor today and we're moving forward with Disulfiram and Naltrexone to complement my existing treatment plan. I feel good about this and am grateful for the courage to take this step.

My dad was an alcoholic and passed without ever getting a grip on his drinking. In a weird way, I guess part of my resolve for not drinking again is to beat this battle for him, too.

Here's to another step in the right direction.

It's a medication used to treat chronic alcoholism. It essentially causes an adverse reaction (nausea, vomiting, etc.) if alcohol is consumed.

I'll take it whenever I anticipate social pressure to drink.

I am on four medications currently for my bipolar one disorder, and I know how important it is to me to stay on the medication path that my doctor has sent out for me, because he knows full well my addictive history, and what I am currently dealing with. I’m sorry to hear that about your father, I’ve lost family members and friends to this disease as well.

Oh ok. So sounds like you’ve got all your bases covered. Is the naltrexone for cravings then, as well?

It is, so the hope is that Naltrexone will help reduce the desire for alcohol, and the Disulfiram will take care of the inevitable moments when I'm tempted to drink again because I will not want to suffer the physical consequences of that decision.

Ciara, you’ve got this! One step at a time sweetheart, one baby step if need be. Then.. one day at a time. I really believe in you. I do.
