- Set Up a Comfortable Space
Find a quiet, private place with a mirror where you won’t be disturbed.
Sit or stand comfortably in front of the mirror.
- Prepare Mentally
Take a few deep breaths to center yourself.
Approach the practice with an open mind, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
- Speak Affirmations
Look into your eyes and say positive affirmations aloud, such as:
“I am strong and capable of staying sober.”
“I am worthy of love and healing.”
“I forgive myself for past mistakes and choose a better path.”
Repeat each affirmation at least 3-5 times, speaking clearly and with conviction.
- Acknowledge Emotions
Notice any emotions that arise—whether it’s sadness, relief, or discomfort—and allow yourself to feel them without judgment.
If tears come, let them flow; they’re a release.
- Set Intentions
Use the mirror to reaffirm your goals for the day, such as:
“Today, I will stay focused on my sobriety.”
“I will seek help if I need it.”
- Express Gratitude
End the session by looking into the mirror and saying something like:
“Thank you for showing up for me today.”
“I’m grateful for another chance to grow.”
- Repeat Daily
Consistency is key. Practicing mirror work daily can help reinforce positive self-talk and strengthen your resolve to stay sober.
Tips for Success:
If affirmations feel awkward at first, write them down and read them until they feel natural.
Over time, add affirmations specific to your journey and struggles.
Pair mirror work with journaling to track your progress and emotions.
