Do you think they should be avoided? Why or why not?
I don't think so , because they have no alcohol but I guess it depends on the person. Meaning if that would cause them to relapse ,then I guess Not..
Up to you. Whatever you decide, make sure there’s a little paper umbrella in it. It’s classy.
Why tempt fate? Like near beer. May not get you a buzz yet keeps the thought of using active. Guess some can do it. Not me,
I don't think it's necessarily tempting fate for all. If someone is struggling and drinks a mocktail instead- guess what? They made it another day sober.
Yes, the umbrella. I love it. I can totally see you writing a recipe book for mocktails; and each recipe includes a little paper umbrella.
I agree with you 100%. If you're going to drink real stuff because you had a mocktail- don't. If not, go for it.
I drink them everywhere I go so that those in recovery can read my review about the restaurant offering mocktails and/or how good they are. A virgin Bloody Mary is my favorite. People ask "isn't that the same as tomato juice?" Absolutely not.
If you enjoyed cocktails, sure. I didn’t really use mixers much. Ice when I bothered to make it. So I don’t really feel like I’m missing out.
Well, I’m pretty hard core about my recovery is all. If you ok with it then all the better. I just take everything to an extreme especially my recovery. Have had to much wreckage in my past to go back to it. Don’t like to be reminded of it. Fake drinks would definitely set me off. A coke works just fine. Or water. Lol. Fruck impressing others. When it comes to life and death I’ll choose life now. Good luck
I’ve been asking myself this a lot lately. I’m 9 years sober and am very intrigued by the NA craft beer movement and have had a few. I really like some of them. I have not had the desire to drink “real” beer. Hard alcohol was my vice. I would never do anything purposely to jeopardize my recovery, it means everything to me. Now a fake Bloody Mary, that would set me off or even a booze less margarita. But not beer. Now I’m conflicting
Avoid at all costs!
If it's a trigger- avoid it. If not, I see no issue. They're soda, water, juice, and/or flavoring.
I don’t drink carbonated drinks. Water, coconut milk, matcha green tea sometimes, apple cider vinegar probiotic drinks…
That’s about it for me…
Oh herbal teas hot or cold..
Everyone is different! If it’s a trigger I’d say stay away from them..
I see nothing wrong with it. Cocktails/Mocktails it's merely a word given to the drink you have most times before dinner. Who says it should or shouldn't have alcohol.
I agree with you Amanda a properly prepared Virgin Bloody Mary. I always liked them
I never drank cocktails, so a mocktail wouldn't even connect as a substitute in my brain, so I'd drink one and have no issue. Definitely wouldn't be a trigger. I don't drink near beer, because I connect beer to my addiction. So it totally depends on the person and what their weapon of choice was.
Nice discussion.
Certain ones I have to stay away from. NA beer, NA whiskey or other NA hard liquor flavors.
