I have gained experience and perspective that has helped me in so many ways but most of all it taught to just be so appreciative of the little things.. the things we take for granted like having a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in, having electricity, running water, clean clothes, food to eatβ¦ without those necessities you get stuck in survival mode. Throw a drug addiction into the mix and eventually youβre doing whatever it takes & get put behind bars, stripped of what freedom we have that is also taken for granted. It all happens so fast - or at least for me, it definitely did. It humbled me and taught me so much about myself & about my determination to remain a drug addict. I had to learn to delicately shift that focus into determination to live a life of recovery. And since doing so it has been a much better and simpler life that I am able to live & actually enjoy living, not just stuck trying to survive.
