My first day of sobriety is…not starting out well. My cat woke me up a full hour earlier than I intended with his incessant, attention seeking wailing and I COMPLETELY lost my cool. I’m clearly easily agitated and taking this ridiculously personal. I hope the rest of this day goes better, but I have a bad feeling this party is just getting started. I want a drink already. I just need to have some faith, stay strong, and not act like the universe thinks my attempt to be better is funny. Meow.
That you recognized you are easily agitated is not a small thing and a great step in the right direction!
Just take it one moment at a time. Just for today stay sober. Worry about tomorrow when it comes. String enough of the tomorrows together and before you know it you have peace. I dealt with anger in early sobriety as well, it does get better. Anger is fear manifesting in an outward way. You are doing a great job recognizing it, and owning it.
You’re doing great right about meow … don’t pick up no matter what . We are all rooting for you . Get to a meeting as soon as you can and hook up w people in regular meetings . They will share the ups and downs w you .
Hi Mackenzie, this is my 3rd time trying sobriety and the difference for me now is realizing that alcohol is a LITERAL POISON. I have 104 days under my belt, and knowing I’m not poisoning myself anymore helps me stay sober. Soberful is a great book that helped me early on. Stay strong, and know that if you stumble, it’s not the end! Just start again
wishing you light and love.
Thank you, that perspective is really helpful
Welcome! Glad you are here. You are not alone in your fight!
