My court ordered therapist whom I really like suggested a few places to try out. To find like minded ppl and get me out of my isolation. She have me 5 or so places. I was eager and went to one that night called SMART.
I was nervous at first. So I walk in and it's about 5 guys in thier 50-60's. I didn't feel out of place being the only female but I could tell maybe they were use to their usual even tho they were welcoming. I didn't get whatever it was I was looking for but he did say the fear I have to drink will go away eventually. I will continue on my sobriety journey and do a women's online group next.

I’ve been going to AA but want to try out SMART. I hear a lot about it and why not try new methods

If you really want to recover I suggest you try several in person meetings. Find one that you are comfortable with. Come early stay late. Sit by people who seem to have what you want. Listen. Bring up a topic at discussion meetings. Go to aa website and download the meeting app. It looks like a chair. Recovery doesn’t happen through osmosis you need to participate. Thousands of people have done it and you can do it too. It’s not just meetings but there’s socializing and activities and new people to meet. Why not really give it a shot.

Ty for the feed back. I would love to go to a sober group event but don't know where to start. Doing group meetings didn't feel organic and I don't need multiple meetings a week I just don't have the time or energy after work.

The guy hosting it was saying it's not a place to stay(forever) but learn life lessons/tools to keep you sober.
