My friend just posted on her ig story that’s she’s celebrating 3 weeks sober by drinking … I mean to each their own but seems a bit weird no ?

Anyone here celebrate being sober a certain amount of days by drinking? Seriously curious

Sounds like she’s not ready yet so she will suffer more and it will get worse. Got bad for me before I quit

To each their own. She's not ready

I hear that all the time from people. Means they are not ready to quit or they need more help to get to the point of realizing it's time to quit!

Seems counter productive

Oh I rewarded myself in this way for years and years before I got that gift of desperation.

If I could handle a casual drink sure but I can't moderate it so I quit

I did this for a number of years. And everytime I'd drink again it would be worst than the last time.

Well to be fair some folks drink and enjoy it, manage it, etc. And avoid disaster. I've chosen not to because it seems to just be no good anymore, but anyone can benefit from taking some good sober time. I celebrate with steak now.

As strange as it sounds, a lot of people do that. If I went any length of time without drinking, I could try and rationalize and minimize my drinking. The truth is, for me, I was just fooling myself. I didn’t want to stop completely. I wanted to manage and control it. A lot of time and effort went into “managing” my drinking. It was ridiculous and exhausting. I think if someone is trying to “test” themselves, they probably have a problem. Normies don’t go around saying they went a period of time without drinking and then declare they are going to celebrate by drinking. Sounds like “alcoholic” behavior to me.

I have a friend who has been through cancer and she celebrates cancer free follow ups / results by u h m, drinking.
Hello, humans. Alcohol increases chances of getting cancer. Yeah. I don’t get that.

Everyone has their own bottom. She’s not there yet.

I'm almost at 60 days I always got to 90 then fail off cause I let pride get in my way but not this time I'll hit 90 days then 6 months then once I get to 6 months I know I got the rest of my life sober Amen

Sounds like your friend has gotta do some more experimenting. Hopefully she'll figure it out.

Some people just do this as a means to prove to themselves that they "don't have a problem" because hey, look at them - all in control. News flash.. Anyone who fully has control of social drinking doesn't feel inclined to take a break, because it's not causing a problem in their life. And to post it publicly on social media is just further proof that they're wanting that validation that they're not a problem drunk. Ah, the strange and funny ways we try to convince ourself that we're still at the wheel when we're really outside of the car watching it run us over. It's just a lot easier to make peace with the problem and start working towards solutions in sobriety. But hey. We all get there eventually. One way or the other!

I had a “friend” that is an alcoholic, she decided she wanted to stop drinking for 90 days to prove to herself that she could, and she reached that goal- than celebrated it by getting wasted. Never made sense to me :woman_shrugging:t2:

Very well said!

Dude, you need a course on etiquette. Seriously. Get better rewards helping others with honey than hot sauce. You can make good points at times tho. And then again……

Kind of sounds like a friend you should be leery of. Would think they’d try and influence you into their mindset. Keep your backyard tight. Doing awesome.
