For me I didn’t even jump right to the admission that as soon as I took the first drink I would lose all control (even though it was true). What I could absolutely admit was that I didn’t know what was going to happen once I took the first drink. That started me down the road to powerlessness.
At least you have the awareness to accept it. You’ll go far with that kind of introspection.
Thank you!
Thank you. I started AA today and absolutely love it!
I know what you mean. The powerlessness is such a terrible feeling.
I don’t see it that way. Powerlessness is a good thing. It’s very important to sobriety. We surrender when we admit that our addiction is bigger than we are. Otherwise we think we can handle it on our own. That is almost always a disaster.
I understand what you're saying and I agree. I felt bad for allowing myself to lose control and for allowing alcohol to have power over me.
Don’t feel bad about that. We have no control. We have no power over it. We can only do the work necessary to grant ourselves a daily reprove. It is a disease. It is not our fault, but it is our responsibility to do something about it.
Step 1- We admitted we were powerless over alcohol and that our lives had become unmanageable.
“What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.” -AA pg.85
Thank you for that!
