My lord, I’ve almost made it through an entire weekend

My lord, I’ve almost made it through an entire weekend hanging in close contact with a bunch of alcoholics in Crested Butte. I’m telling you, if I can do this I can do anything. I thought it was going to be hiking focused… very wrong. We hiked until 1pm and then the drinking pretty much started. The anxiety was killing me and I almost picked up tonight just to numb the ridiculous chatter. They decided to listen to music and I finally escaped.

I hear you, the hiking crowds are heavy on catching up on the liquid carbs here too. Totally sucks when you are trying to meet new people and trapped in the wilderness with the wrong sort.

Right on for getting through it + the sly escape. I’m still searching for a new crew, hope you find yours too.

Stay strong Melissa! I have been in that same exact spot on many occasions over many years. Ski trips, scuba trips, holiday parties, weddings, etc. I was always the guy that doesn’t drink. Everyone else getting stupid, laughing, and bonding. It Eventually I caved. I didn’t have any connection to a sober community of support. I’m glad you do have some support. We don’t have to be alone. Continue to build your sober support. Eventually you will find some sober friends to do these things with, or at least join you on a trip. In the meantime, enjoy your sobriety. It’s so much better than being sick

Thanks guys! I’ve actually been hiking the CO trail with three of these gals over the past 3 years so they are solid people, but there’s also little to no booze on 7 days hiking trips so this is eye opening, especially now that I’m sober. But yeah, probably no more of these weekend trips for a while. Thanks so much for the support :heart:, it’s not easy and it helps to see you guys making it out the other side a bit, or at least getting used to it

Sly escape is key! Where are you from Christina? I lived the mountain/desert drinking lifestyle for many years, it’s so hard to switch the mentality sometimes! Got through day 10 though, I’m over the moon.

Hang in there :pray:t3::pray:t3::pray:t3::pray:t3:
