My mom is a bible thumper, Easter is a lot

My mom is a bible thumper, Easter is a lot for me to handle with her as is. It’s a trigger. Yesterday talked with someone who I value and admire and they said they didn’t think I lost enough for me to learn my lesson. This person had promised me forever, but I feel like I was deceived and I can’t help but want his forgiveness and approval. Ugh. 3 months tomorrow. I let myself get so vulnerable with someone - I feel like I gave someone something I’ll never get back. I’ll never be able to give to someone new. Anyone else have a story of hope? I could use some today. Thanks.

Can't give something to someone you don't have. It's a hard lesson, not sure where you are in your recovery (forgiving yourself, fully loving yourself, etc), so I won't assume.
Maybe just be open to everything "Easter" today; the whole nine yards. I'm not a Bible thumper myself  :grinning: but just let it roll off your back and listen and smile. Be proud of these 3 months and celebrate yourself! The rest will come when it comes.

First off that is really fluted up what that person said. Yeah I am not a fan of ritualistic holidays. I am sorry that people have let you down before, but there is always hope regardless of what we have been through.. I am not a sunshine and rainbows type of talker. I prefer to be in reality. You only know your situation and where your strength comes from..other people can go flute themselves and not in the fun way.:slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks. It’s just hard to understand it. He’s 16 years sober so his words hurt and seemed messed up at the same time. Just wish I didn’t care.

Time doesn't mean anything. People can still be earsholes. I know how words can sting coming from people we care about and look up to in some ways..you are most welcome..

I did lose but who determines how much is enough. Who is to say we cannot learn from others mistakes and not repeat them. I think that's what makes us different from other animals.
I would like to think he spoke without thinking it through and thought he was helping.
Maybe you should tell them how much it hurt you.
You are strong you will preserve best of luck

I too lost my forever person who said "for better or worse", etc. Truth is she couldn't handle my "worse" and my choices led to her losing faith in me. Someone once told me not to say "always" or "never" because they are almost never true or realistic. My future depends on my sobriety and mental/spiritual health. That's all I can control. I keep trying to do the next right thing and think about helping others and not focusing on my own wounds.

He was my fiancé :broken_heart:

Thanks. I do believe it came from a fear of my failure, but everyone has their own tolerance or definition of loss, and this was my bottom. I did not have the same experience this person did. Thank you for responding. It helps me process, and not sink with it all.

That’s good advice. I’ve been diving into work and being present for my kids.

I’m sorry to hear that. It was not right of him to say those things to you. To anyone.

Just because this person is sober doesn't mean they aren't TOXIC.

Seems like this person is taking out some personal issues on you. Remember you are the only person in control of your actions and emotions.. so don’t let their cruel words take the power that you have to know their words are just that, words, away. Just because they think or feel some way doesn’t make it your truth. Use the pain they cause as fuel to do what is right and best for you and your life. Prove that mother fluffer wrong.

Just my POV but seems like you’re better off without them.
