If I say "I can't get back that time I wasted on you" it discredits not only the actual time (years, hours, minutes) I spent with you, but also the work that I put in during that time. The effort and energy I put forth. So even though in hindsight I wish I spent that time with someone else, or alone, it wasn't a waste. It was still MY time that I CHOSE to spend with you...and I won't let anything I choose to do be considered a "waste" of my time.
