My wife is an alcoholic. She goes through a fifth of vodka every few days. I buried a close friend in his 30s who drank a fifth a day. My attitude towards alcohol has changed quite a bit, but I’ll sit outside and have a bourbon once a week, tops. Is this hypocritical? I feel our marriage won’t last if she continues to drink. The difference is she becomes a monster at times.
Some people can regulate their alcohol consumption, some can't. Does she realize she has a problem? If not then there isn't much you can say or do to help her. If she does, she needs you to help her. Sobriety is a team effort. It isnt hypocritical to see someone would be better off sober, but you may have to choose her being sober over a bourbon every now and then.
She says maybe she is an alcoholic, but so what. Live with it.
