i’d love to find some kind of group or program that’s not NA. i tried a couple of different groups/meetings and it’s just not for me. any suggestions?
Hey, what's "not for you" about it? All the hugging drove me nuts. Haha
It depends on what you are looking for. I go to AA, NA, and Celebrate Recovery. All for different messages. I’ve also done individual and group counseling. Taken classes to further understand how our mind and body works and read various literature. Keep trying new things until you find something you relate to. It’ll come when you are ready.
Go to the gym or run, find something that will distract you from addictive thoughts. I don’t go to AA or any of that stuff cause most of those people smoke cigarettes. GROSS😂, but you can do it without those groups. It’s gonna be hard but you can do it!
So find a different meeting AA CA OA its subjective … you’ll find one ! Our God was drugs n alcohol mostly and pretty much ourselves ! But that’s terms we all come to on our own … 🫵 you’ll be ok
AA SMART Celebrate Sobriety
Just find a good sponsor! I’m here if you need to talk
AA has worked for me. It is different
smartrecovery.örg
Science based using CBT
All recovery meetings are also very good
There is something called Smart Recovery and they have meetings... Never checked it out myself... thinking about it though
Kerry what didn’t you like about NA? What are you looking for in recovery? Step based program?
If not then maybe life ring would be a good fit. It’s a secular circle group meeting that meets once a week or if there is more in your area and maybe even on zoom now.
I love AA. It’s given me a life I didn’t think was possible with all the wreckage I caused….
Try podcasts and quit lit. Also there are online groups like TLC (the luckiest club), Cafe RE and sober moms squad. She recovers, find resources at the sober curator Find your tribe. There are so many options besides AA.
Someone needs to create an AA/NA type of meeting without the higher power, the steps, the shame created for being an addict, and all the other parts besides going to a meeting, talking about addiction, talking about sober life, and talking about life issues, and connecting with others
I found smart recovery and mindfulness practice groups seemed to fit what I needed better. I hope you find what you need.
There are secular AA groups/meetings. Alot of them actually. Freethinkers, West Side Agnostics, are both legit AA groups and we don't talk about religious nonsense, only sobriety. Also the Satanic Temple has a Sober Faction that does meetings etc that is also completely non religious and is fact/practicality based sobriety. Don't let the name scare you, it's worth checking out.
Just take what you like and leave the rest.
What is quit lit?
