NA drinks advisable?

Hey all you thst have been on this journey awhile, this is a question for you. Im on day 13 sober from alcohol and have been having urges in certain situations. My question is do u think me having a NA beer during those urges helps or creates another crutch on this journey?

Hey Wanda! Personally, I drank for the effect, so when I got sober, I didn’t want anything that even reminded me of alcohol. But I have friends who love mocktails or NA drinks. For some, it’s a health choice. For others, it helps them feel comfortable socially.
I think the real question is: how does it feel for you? Does reaching for an NA beer when you’re craving bring relief, or does it make you want the real thing more? You know yourself best.

I agree with Crissy. I never drank to be social. All or nothing for me and I didn't crave alcohol once I stopped naltroxone. I have read in some places that some of the 0 percent drinks are not really 0 percent. I read that, by law, a company can say 0 percent if the content is under a certain amount. It is just advertising. Check it out, and I wish you the best.

I don't think anything that tastes like the real thing is a good idea. Many mocktails are just pretty fruit juice and seltzer, so I think they're safe.

Too early, if there's still urges to drink, in my opinion

I've considered kombucha, which steered me wrong last time. I've found that really sweet drinks like that Arizona green tea with ginseng really craves my appetite for an alcoholic euphoria.

My go to has been Bubly or La Croix. I have people who aren’t alcoholics make a lot of suggestions like near beer. I don’t trust that would be useful in reprogramming my mind away from alcohol.

For me that led right back to a real alcoholic drink.
It tastes like assss, so why would I drink it if it doesn’t get me tuned up?!!!:star_struck:
Slippery slope Wanda

I drank to be social, but also like to get rid of physical pain that I deal with on a daily basis…. Because it was “cheaper” then it got to a point where it was cheaper, it was reckless, but some of the friends I have accept me for stopping drinking… an feel great drinking na beers or mocktails to be social.

I drank to get blitzed (not the flavor) - I don’t do Anything that reminds me of alcohol - I won’t drink out of a wine or cocktail glass, I don’t drink NA stuff (cause it’s not really) and it just mimics having the real thing - too similar and dangerous for me

@wanda441940 you're newly sober. So a newcomer (you) asking a dumba$$ question of this nature does not surprise me.

Stay away from NA beverages of any type.

Not very supportive

The NA drink is a personal decision. Since you are newly sober and might not know if it will trigger you I would wait. Stick to the fun bubbles of a flavored club soda if you want something besides water. Personally I have an NA beer to be social when out. They taste most like the real thing. It does not trigger me to want a real beer. The NA wine I have tried tastes awful and is actually expensive so I have stayed away. You will figure out what works best for you

NA beer is a no go in my experience

I don't think this is a one size fits all, ya know. You know yourself best. I drink mocktails because I like different flavors and pretty beverages. But I stay away from NA beer because it reminds me of the real thing.

Don't do anything that would hinder your sobriety.

Michael, are you OK? This isn't like you.

Have a NA water, it is muck more beneficial for you to get healthy. Hit the gym too it helps.

I believe you already know the answer? That would be cross addicting to another addiction. No that does not work to clean your body you must abstain completely from any mind altering substances. Please think about what I said, it is the truth and the light and the way
