Naltrexone?

Anyone feel super weird and sick the first few days of taking Naltrexone? If so any tips to help while the body is adjusting? P.S. I have already tried taking half a pill :sob:

It made me feel super weird like not being able to function weird. What dose were you prescribed?

Yeessss that feeling!! 50mg but I took half so 25mg. Iā€™ve been able to tolerate it in the past but now not so much

I think I was prescribed 50 too.. Iā€™d have to look. I felt so bad I flushed them after the third day :sob:

Yea mine were 50 and I even tried half a pill myself

Wellā€¦ um it depends. They have alcohol removed wine.

I started taking naltrexone again at one point and didnā€™t read the label bc I was already familiar with it. Turns out, if i take it in the am, i get super nauseous and donā€™t feel like eating. Taking it at night is much better for me. I will also say that taking it every day built up in my system, so when i fell off the wagon, it was able to provide me with the adverse effects of drinking (feeling feverish and nauseous when drinking and therefore not wanting to drink a lotā€¦ or at least not too fast. It was easier to wean back off.) It can help. Monthly vivitrol injections are a good option too, rather it was for me in early sobriety simply because I only had to make the choice once a month rather than every day. Then again, sobriety is an everyday thing. Try saying the serenity prayer and or third step prayer and do what feels right for you.

When I moved from half pill to full dose it made me feel almost like I was withdrawing again. Shaky, nervous, anxious, could barely focus enough to drive safely honestly. But this is day 3 of a full 50mg dose and it's side effects have gone down considerably. I barely even notice them now.

I took naltrexone in the past for alcohol and I had a lot of symptoms of depressionā€”apathy and anhedonia were the major two. I didnā€™t care about anything and found little joy in the things I liked.

Since naltrexone is an opioid receptor antagonist, it also blocks endorphins. In case you arenā€™t aware, endorphins are ā€œendogenous morphineā€ā€”or opioid-like chemicals in that naturally occur in your brain.
