So today is my 5 year sober! last night my underage daughter drank at a party for her first time. Shes only 16 and to be honest has done quite well up until this point with the pressures these kids face. I am struggling with how to handle it. I am trying not to let my anti-alcohol brain not take over and over react. Her father is not much help when it comes to setting boundries for her an enforcing them. He is naive when presented with his little girl ever being โbadโ. I want to keep an open line of communication with her. Her father and I are currently arguing right now due to the scenarios I have conjoured up in my head if she continues to hang out with the boy she is seeing and the โfriendsโ that surround them. She has always struggled to fit in so I worry that she will fall into the same habits I did. Again, is my alcholic brain taking over? Whats your advice on this situation? Has anyone experienced something like this?
I remember when I was 16.....if my parents told me what I couldn't do, that's exactly what I did!!
That's the age where I started experimenting and drinking also.
Mae.. CONGRATULATIONS on your 5 months.
I have no children that I'm aware of unless you know something I don't know so I can't help you with your daughter. I'm sure there are a plethora of people here who can.
Again CONGRATULATIONS and best of luck.
I agree hence the reason I am trying to be cautious
I mean a constructive conversation about it with them is a no-brainer. I remember having to watch the scared straight videos lol. I would avoid making the conversation an argument, come at it with love.
You okay
Oooh a tuff one for sure! I can tell you that educating your daughter in a non-nagging way on the affects of drinking from a mental, physical and social aspect is a good idea. Then being there to support and try to help her be responsible and sensible. Help her realize she is special & awesome without booze.
If you try to over control, she might rebel and the youโll get the opposite of what you want. You love her and want to protect her, totally understandable.
Be cool and loving. Equip her with knowledge and dignity.
You may want to go to Alynon as well.
I hope this helps๐
