New Beginnings

Hi! I’m new to this App. I’ve been drinking for the past 10 years and I’ve been sober for over 6 months now. The first month was HARD, because it felt like I lost a friend. I let myself mourn that loss because I knew that feeling would pass. Then I started to feel good. Like crazy good! So far it’s been the best decision I’ve made this year and I haven’t felt this great in years!

But sobriety has presented some new challenges. It’s hard to make new connections and explain how wonderful sobriety feels to someone who is drinking or not on a similar path. Sadly, I’ve had to let go of some relationships. I’m learning it’s okay for people to come and go in our lives especially if they compromise our wellbeing. Does this resonate with anyone?

Reading has helped a LOT and remarkably shifted my perception of booze from friend to enemy. Some books that kickstarted my journey and really made it easy to quit were “Quit Like a Woman” and “The Unexpected Joy of Being sober”

Looking forward to connecting!

First, congratulations on six months. Second, have you heard of the pink cloud in early sobriety? I remember feeling that way around six months as well. It may or may not shift. I can relate to not feeling as much in common anymore with people in my life that drink heavily. It seems like a natural cause and effect. Sounds like you are doing a great job at managing this and accepting that when we grow, our relationships do as well.

Welcome Darcie and thanks for sharing your story

Welcome Darcie! Congrats on 6 months!

Great job. I feel this. There is the initial high and then it kind of plateaus into "normal" and ya start to miss that feeling. Just Have to find something to fill that gap. Also, not sharing the thoughts, feelings, blessings and accomplishments in real life was and is a struggle for me. I wanted to tell everyone "hey, guess what? Xx months today!" But don't. I guess that's kind of another reason we are on here though, right? Like minded people to share this little thing of ours with! :grinning:
