New here. I am almost at a year of sobriety

New here. I am almost at a year of sobriety, pretty much did it alone. I never liked AA and have had some uncomfortable experiences. I’m trying to move through this because people have had great success with 12 steps. Thoughts?

:+1: Hey you gotta do whats in your best interest, not anyone else. I like AA but I do not agree with all of it. Thats my take

Hey, Maria. Congrats on near a year. That's awesome. If AA isn't your thing, look into SMART Recovery.

Yeah, thanks. it’s been the only sober path for so long. Happy that there are resources out there now..

I’ve heard of that… will do. Thanks!

Hello Maria! Congrats on a year of sobriety! I love AA! Its Tailored to me as I work my program as long as I’m willing…. Key to AA is admittance. The big book has the solution to our problem. I wish you the best. I’m here if you have questions. Life is blissfully beautiful sober!

Ignore bad things and try to get best out of it.

Some people are not very honest!

I am wishing you all the best in journey of soberity.

Those who say AA didn't work for them are typically people who didn't work the 12 steps. I'm sorry you've had uncomfortable situations; if they are rooted in people being creeps then I'd suggest trying different meetings or clubhouses. If the awkwardness comes from topics of discussion, look at why it makes you uneasy. Part of recovery is doing things that are aversive to our initial instincts & that can be SUPER uncomfortable, but that's when the growth happens. Admitting that we don't know everything about everything is scary and annoying lol  keep an open mind, be true to yourself, and keep pushing!
