New here! Looking to meet more people in recovery, specifically mental health recovery & awareness while also being sober. Have a nice afternoon!
Mental health treatment was a key component of my recovery. I've been suffering from depression and anxiety since I was a child, and self-medicating pretty much my entire adult life.
I fully believe I wouldn't be sober today were it not for medication and therapy.
Dual diagnosis is tough. I am bipolar, and was stuck in the bottle for 12 years. It wasn’t until I got sober that I could deal with the bipolar correctly. Now i can finally say I am at peace in my own mind.
Hello, send me a friend request and let’s talk!
Welcome
so happy you’re here
Good morning, dual diagnosis is challenging. You cannot treat one without treating the other- that's for sure.
Same here & really no shame. I didn’t deal with an addiction to alcohol per se, but it added to self destruction & terrible choices because it really affects brain health. I may be boring now & my world is pretty small, but stability & peace is priceless to me.
Added!
That’s basically why I go to all recovery in weconnect. A lot of people are there for mental health or dual. It’s helped me so much
Thanks for sharing. I have a Dual Diagnosis as well. It took time to find the correct meds for my Bipolar disability and now that I have, it has greatly improved my recovery
It really is manageable (not easy) if you get on the right meds, no benzos or sleeping pills only real BP meds for sleep, get sober, exercise & have a recovery community or counseling. I honestly have benefited much, much more from the recovery community than I ever did counseling. I also set a very strict daily self care routine & daily meditation also. It takes a lot, but it is possible. The hard thing is moving forward after knowing it could have been managed earlier if I hadn’t been so stubborn to do the right thing for me.
I’m on a couple Recovy platforms and they have helped a lot. Especially, The Mighty. Thanks for chatting
Besides alcoholism I also have Anxiety disorder (OCD) and depression
