New here

I have been a steady drinker for nearly 15years. I have chosen today to end that. I moved recently for work and my family has not moved with me yet. My drinking has gotten heavier since being alone. I need to find something other than work to keep me busy in the evenings. I don't day drink, only after I get home from work.

I look forward to a new sober life with my wife when she moves to where I am. I know I can do this, but then I still have my doubts.

Wish me luck!

I have recently started my sober journey as well. We got this!

Thank you. I am hoping that the hardest thing is/was admitting I have a problem and then actually doing something about it

You can do it and then you will be so much happier and present when they move to follow. Keep using your resources and reach out as often as needed. You can do it

Start strong and use all resources available to you. Research programs like AA, SMART Recovery, Recovery Dharma, etc., see which is the best fit. Attend online meetings, make real-life sober friends where you can. If you think books may help, ask others here for recommendations.

This app is a great source for information and support, but don't let it be the only thing you lean on. A chair with only one leg isn't much of a chair.

Thank you. Being this is the first time I have actually admitted to my wife and to myself that I have a problem, emotions and feelings are all over the place.

That's so awesome, it is such a better life sober! I drank after work also for the last 15 or more years every day! Some days more than others, but now I'm 7 days away from 1 year sober! I made the decision on my own and randomly, best thing I ever did! You got this!

I was an after work and weekend drinker. For 12 years. The bottom came up and hit me real fast, and I never saw it coming. AA helped me, it was the fellowship and accountability that kept me on the path. and now my relationship with my wife is 100 times better and my kids want me around them again. The apps “in the rooms” and “meeting guide” are free and give locations and times for meetings near you. Good luck on your journey!
