New hobbies

What are some new hobbies you’re trying or want to try? I have been writing poetry for years but I’m getting into wood burning as a new hobby. This piece of wood is ready and marked how I want it, time to burn it in. I’ll share the finished results later. So what are your hobbies?

That’s one I would love to do as well

Martial arts and yoga have really helped me through this process

Sounds like you’re pretty creative. That’s great. I listen to podcasts, watch a lot of old movies, explore new music. The key is to keep busy.

Yeah being bored is a terrible enemy to have, especially in early sobriety which I still consider myself.

I never get bored. I never have enough free time to explore all of my interests. The enemy for me is depression. Being alone with time on my hands is the temptation and when I’m depressed it’s tenfold. That’s when I get the urges.

I want to. I tried before but it didn’t go well but it never hurts to try again

I battle with depression as well so I know what you mean. Stay strong.

I have been into refinishing furniture. I am a hands on learner so this has been great!

I’m 113 days sober! So I’m still trying to find new hobbies that don’t include drinking. I am coming back into Reading and Writing a bit. I love both of these outlets. I usually watched a lot of TV and movies but now I am trying to do something more creative with my time.

When I first tried to get sober in my early attempts in 2012, I knew I was going to need something to occupy my hands and mind at the same time. So I ventured into new waters with a hobby that I had otherwise always viewed as "nerdy"... Building plastic model airplanes. Fast forward to today, I'm eight years sober, and my "nerdy" hobby ended up landing me a job in the model shop for the largest defense contractor in the world making six figures doing something I love. Hobbies have a strange way of finding us.

Fly fishing is a really calming and meditative hobby to get into, gets you out of your head and into nature, I just got out of treatment and hopefully will pick that up again, I really enjoyed it at one time, anything that puts you in the now I’ve found helps
