2 days sober right now. My issue is with binge drinking. I wouldn't drink every day but that weekend comes and I'd drink a large amount for 2 or 3 days (I have 3 day weekends.).
I'm not the most hopeful right now because I work swing and don't have regular weekends off. I just know I need to stop drinking but for some reason my brain keeps trying to hold on to the idea that maybe I can control it. I keep on doing things I regret so I know I shouldn't go back.
Anyone have any words of support or advice. I work 4 10s swing and weekends so it's not really viable doing meetings every day. Any advice or support is welcome. Thanks all.

Hey Levon! Same here..today is my 7th day and man this weekend was hard! I found myself trying to create projects in the house to keep myself busy...the thoughts are always there but when they come through i try to practice some mindfullness skills and remember the positives that are in the present and the future..actually even reading through some of the comments and posts on this page has helped me remember why this choice is the best choice!

Hello Levon. Welcome. Do you know that there are zoom meetings 247 so really no excuse for no meetings. The way your drinking you are doing so much damage to your liver. Sobriety is not easy but dying from this I can tell is worse. Watched my brother die at 33 the color of a lemon with no functional liver left. My recovery, I still can’t accept that this happened, is the most important thing for me. Another friend was found dead in his car bleeding from every part of his body from alcohol. See they show the glamour of drinking but don’t show the harsh reality. Yes people can drink normal, which according to doctor is maybe a drink or two not what we do whether binging on weekends or drinking everyday because eventually that will happen. Sorry if this is a harsh post but watching people die is brutal. Good luck with sobriety. Will only work IF you want it.:pray:

Didn't know about the online meetings. Thanks. Fully aware alcohol kills you but in all reality because of my mentality it's the least of my worries. More of looking for a better life. Not exactly in the best mindset so death doesn't bother me if you get what I'm saying.
More of just looking for support.

Well we support here but I also like to let people know my personal experience because it is something I will never forget. Yes check out zoom meetings. Unfortunately I don’t think they will let me post web here. At least you can hear from other people and support I’d amazing. Good luck. Sorry for preaching.

You're fine. Thank you.

Just very compassionate about recovery :heart:

Check to see if there’s anyone that offers Neurofeedback in your area (I don’t recall where Willomina is, but if you’re close to Portland, there’s one in Beaverton). As for what you can do on your own if, find things to replace the habit of drinking, i.e. drink water in place of alcohol (your body can only process 27-33 ounces of water an hour, so spread it out over the course of the day, about as many ounces of water as your body weight in lbs. to be nominally hydrated), go for a walk in a park during a time that you would normally drink, maybe check out the Phoenix app for sober events in your area, pick up a skill that works your mind out in a creative way, like reorganizing your garage. For myself, I’ve never been to an AA meeting; I know they work for a lot of folks out there, but it’s just not my thing. Maybe listen to a podcast (I listen to RealAF by Andy Frisella), or music that you just enjoy listening to. There’s a lot of options out there, and while it’s one thing to abstain from utilizing a substance, the other part of the equation is figuring out for yourself what works best for you via trial and I don’t like it (I don’t say trial and error on the chance it may lead me down the path of a possible mistake or regret). A big thing - write it down for why you want to stop drinking, strengthen your mindset and give yourself permission to not feel forced to drink, and set that intention with your friends and loved ones. If meetings are not an option, find someone that help you with accountability.

I ain’t a doctor, but I consider myself a subject matter expert in having regrets and weaknesses (as probably most of us do), and life just came to a point where I didn’t want either of those things in my life anymore. Congrats on your 2 days, and keep livin’ hard! :metal:
